Highlights from a week and a half in the Baltic States + Helsinki

VILNIUS, LITHUANIA

Eat:

Don’t Miss:

  • Cathedral Square
  • Bell Tower of the Vilnius Cathedral: great views of the city
  • Trakai Castle: take a day trip to Trakai and walk around the lil island/castle
  • KGB Museum

 

RIGA, LATVIA

Eat:

  • Mr. Fox for amazing buddha bowls and shakshuka
  • Raw Garden for raw vegan lasagna and sweet potato pancakes
  • MIIT Coffee for nourishing omelettes
  • Terra Restorani for literally every meal – build your own plates for lunch/dinner and delicious breakfast assortments

Don’t Miss

  • Riga Town Hall Square
  • Sigulda: take a day trip here to explore Gauja National Park and all of the medieval castles; Sigulda is called “Latvian Switzerland” because of its beautiful landscapes
  • Jūrmala: take a day trip to this pretty lil beach town to escape the city

 

TALLIN, ESTONIA

EAT:

  • NOP Cafe & Shop for the most epic food; legit ate like 4 meals here (smoked mackerel-crema cheese spread on a roasted sweet potato with a qual egg + crisp bread; kale chips; sesame crusted fish balls; tuna omelette; salmon + grain salad; the list goes on…)
  • F-Hoone for an unreal breakfast sandwich (dark ciabiatta stuffed with smoked chicken + crispy bacon + a fried egg + hummus + chili mayo + cucumber + tomato)

Don’t Miss:

  • Kiek in de Kök: museum in a restored cannon tower from the 15th century
  • Laheema National Park: get your nature fix
  • Jägala Waterfall: who doesn’t love a good waterfall? And it’s en route to Laheema National Park
  • Estonian History Museum: really interesting museum all about Estonia
  • Check out the Estonia seaside
  • Swing on an Estonian swing
  • HELSINKI: catch the first ferry of the day (6 AM or 7 AM I think) and take the last one back (around 10 PM) and spend the day in Finland

 

HELSINKI, FINLAND

Eat:

  • Roots Helsinki for the BEST plant based salad of your life (quinoa, zucchini ribbons, chimichurri chickpeas, beetroot hummus, red onions, pomegranate seeds, pumpkin seeds with nut bread)
  • Design Museum for a tasty breakfast quiche
  • Hakaniemi Market for fresh fish

Don’t Miss:

  • Design Museum Helsinki: this place was literally SO COOL
  • Johannes Church
  • Helsinki Design District: shop around these cool lil boutiques
  • Helsinki Cathedral
  • Kallio’s Church
  • Hakaniemi Market
